Former CEO and Chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates turned out to be the man behind the decision at last week's acquisition of Skype. Although he has handed over the throne of power to Steve Ballmer, but he is still the decision maker in the Microsoft.
Previously reported world's largest software vendor has agreed to buy Skype for USD 8.5 billion (around Rp 72 trillion). Purchases of USD 8.5 billion of this is Microsoft's largest acquisition in the past three decades.
As quoted by the BBC on Wednesday (18/05/2011), though no longer as CEO, Gates' voice still influence the course of the acquisition decision.
"I have strong support at the council for a decision that has done it," said Gates in an interview with the BBC.
Although Skype has a total debt of USD 686 million, the agreement will be assessed remain profitable for Microsoft. It is believed, Skype will be integrated in Windows Live, Windows Phone, Xbox, and Kinect.
