Engine Javascript in your browser the latest generation apparently already very strong. A researcher using the browser to emulate a PC and run the Linux operating system.
This was done Fabrice Bellard, as quoted detikiNET from TheRegister, Wednesday (05/18/2011). Kernel 2.6.20 successfully executed Bellard on top of the browser Mozilla Firefox 4 and Google Chrome 11.
"I did it for fun, because the new Javascript engine that is fast enough to run things complicated," said Bellard.
Indirectly, what could be done Bellard benchmarks (benchmark) the latest generation of browser's capabilities in running Javascript.
Bellard says V8 (used Chrome) run the emulator was slower than Jaeger Monkey (who used Firefox).
The man behind the project FFmpeg and QEMU is running both the 32 bit version for Windows, Mac and LInux course.
Bellard device emulation results equivalent to 32-bit x86 computer with a programmable interrupt controller 8259, programmable interrupt timer 8254 and the UART (universal asynchronous receiver / transmitter) 16 450.
Less is more, said Bellard, emulasinya results were compared to a PC with an Intel 486. Surely there are some differences, such as lack of floating point unit.
In addition to fun and benchmarks, Bellard said the emulator can be used for several things. Including, for example, the cryptographic process on the client side or play a game old school DOS version.
Emulator can be accessed here.
